Celebrating its fifth year, the Bikila Award Ceremony has become one of the most anticipated events in the African-Canadian community calendar and drawn hundreds of attendees from within and outside of the Ethiopian-Canadian community.

Founded by few Ethiopian Diasporas living in Canada, Bikila Award aims at recognizing those individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to Ethiopians using their knowledge, expertise, entrepreneurship and humanitarian services. The Award honors the memory of the great Ethiopian runner Abebe Bikila who was the first Black African athlete to capture an Olympic Medal in 1960. Running barefoot in Rome, he won the marathon in a record time of 2:15:16.2.
